I have put together a template for a basic pepeha. It is a way that you introduce yourself in Maori. This acknowledges where you come from, mountain, tribe/s, parents etc.
I would like each student to know their pepeha so we can present it to each other sometime next Wednesday or Friday (last week of school holidays).

BASIC PEPEHA
(A pepeha is a way in which you introduce yourself in Maori)
Ko____________________________ toku maunga (mountain- from where you are from)
Ko____________________________ toku awa (river- from where you are from)
Ko____________________________ toku waka (canoe - transport to NZ)
Ko____________________________ toku iwi (tribe- from where you are from) OR
Ko____________________________ toku iwi o toku Papa (Father’s tribe)
Ko____________________________ toku iwi o toku Mama (Mother’s tribe)
No____________________________ ahau (where you are from)
Ko____________ raua ko__________oku matua (my parents are)
Ko____________________________ toku ingoa (my name is)
For example…
My pepeha -
Ko Mt Vaea toku maunga (mountain- in Samoa)
Ko Vaisigano toku awa (river- in Samoa)
Ko Polynesian Airlines toku waka (canoe - transport to NZ)
Ko Tanugamanono toku iwi o toku Papa (Father’s tribe - this is my Father’s village/people)
Ko Alamagoto toku iwi o toku Mama (Mother’s tribe - this is my Mother’s village/people)
No Waikato ahau (where you are from)
Ko Viliamu raua ko Aoaomalu oku matua (my parents names are)
These I have added to my pepeha:
Ko Raja taku Tane (my husband)
Ko V.J me te Hail to aku tama (my sons)
Ko Zelda Dahya toku ingoa
TIHEI MAURI ORA! (we are alive!)
