Kia Ora kautou!

Today we actually got through POI E! Below is a recording of our success thus far. There were only a few of us at practice, but it would sound better with everyone else.

Link of our recording HERE.

The boys are getting through the KAPA O PANGO haka and we are looking forward to moving on to the next Haka.

FOR HOMEWORK

BOYS: Please learn the words to Kapa of Pango and if possible the actions. The most important thing is learning the words and pronunciation, the actions will follow.

GIRLS & BOYS: Please learn all the Poi e lyrics. Again - learning the words and pronunciation is very important.

I look forward to seeing you all on Friday 9:50am - 1pm.

Kia pai to ra (have a good day)
Mrs Z. DAHYA

PEPEHA!

Kia Ora!

I have put together a template for a basic pepeha. It is a way that you introduce yourself in Maori. This acknowledges where you come from, mountain, tribe/s, parents etc.

I would like each student to know their pepeha so we can present it to each other sometime next Wednesday or Friday (last week of school holidays).

BASIC PEPEHA
(A pepeha is a way in which you introduce yourself in Maori)

Ko____________________________ toku maunga (mountain- from where you are from)

Ko____________________________ toku awa (river- from where you are from)

Ko____________________________ toku waka (canoe - transport to NZ)

Ko____________________________ toku iwi (tribe- from where you are from) OR

Ko____________________________ toku iwi o toku Papa (Father’s tribe)

Ko____________________________ toku iwi o toku Mama (Mother’s tribe)

No____________________________ ahau (where you are from)

Ko____________ raua ko__________oku matua (my parents are)

Ko____________________________ toku ingoa (my name is)

For example…

My pepeha -

Ko Mt Vaea toku maunga (mountain- in Samoa)
Ko Vaisigano toku awa (river- in Samoa)
Ko Polynesian Airlines toku waka (canoe - transport to NZ)
Ko Tanugamanono toku iwi o toku Papa (Father’s tribe - this is my Father’s village/people)
Ko Alamagoto toku iwi o toku Mama (Mother’s tribe - this is my Mother’s village/people)

No Waikato ahau (where you are from)
Ko Viliamu raua ko Aoaomalu oku matua (my parents names are)

These I have added to my pepeha:

Ko V.J me te Hail to aku tama (my sons)

Ko Zelda Dahya toku ingoa

TIHEI MAURI ORA! (we are alive!)

THINGS TO COME

Ata marie! (Good morning),

I thought that I would post up what I have in mind for this final term of the year. We have 11 weeks, but due to camp for the senior class we have 10 to work with. I will be holding kapa haka practice in the first week for our Yr 5 students and may open up to Yr 4's. That is to be confirmed.

Kapa Haka over the school holidays

Kia Ora Tatou!

Just trying to keep everyone in the loop, and just to let you all know that this is only a temporary site for all MCS kapa haka students to check out current homework and up and coming events.

We had our first practice yesterday (Monday 26th Sept) and had 9 students attend. It was awesome to have gotten through our 2nd haka with the boys and the girls went through the Te Rina waiata.

I hope to have more students attend tomorrow and Friday this week then again on the second week of holidays Mon, Weds and Fri again. I will post up youtube videos for homework, words for chants, waiata's and haka's etc.

Any questions you can contact me on 0211646606 or email: z.dahya@gmail.com

Mauri Ora (health and wellness to you)

Zelda
