FIRST POST FOR 2017!

KIA ORA TAMARIKI!

We are well into the last half of 2nd term and it has been pretty full on! Sad to say that we have suffered a loss of 3 members of our Kapa Haka group! But let me just take you back to the end of last year when we had our PRIZE GIVING! How was that? I was definitely on a HIGH!! We were off the HOOK! Click to see the POI E VIDEO and the TIKA TONU VIDEO.

Although we no longer have David, Lubna and Pauls in our group we need to get back on it! We have some work to do! I have big plans for Prize giving and so we need to get the ball rolling!

Here is the long awaited VIDEO of our last Kapa haka practice with them...which wasn't a practice at all...hahaha!

We need to focus on our new waiata KOTIRO MAORI E! We have learnt the first verse and we smashed it. This coming week I plan for us to learn the other 3 verses! Then we need to get into the actions! I literally cannot wait!

Here are the lyrics and meaning:

Kōtiro Māori e, taku ripene pai
O makawe hoki nga ngaru ate tai
Ko te pare huia
He tohu rangatira e
Ko Rongomaiwahine
O Nukutaurua e.
Maori lass, my gay ribbon,
your hair is like the ripples of the tide
a topknot of huia feathers
an aristocratic symbol
Rongomaiwahine
of Nukutaurua.

Rongongia tō ataahua
E te whenua katoa
Tae atu te kohimuhimu
Ki a Kahungunu e
Ko wai te wahine e
Whakakapakapa te manawanui?
Ko Rongomaiwahine
O Nukutaurua e

Your beauty is known
throughout the land
then the whisper reaches
even to Kahungunu.
Who is the woman who
breaks so many hearts?
It is Rongomaiwahine
of Nukutaurua.

Piki ake, kake ake 1
Ki Te Mahia e
Ka kite tana hiahia
Aue Ko Rongomai e.
Haere mai e tama rukuhia
Nga pāua a Tangaroa nei
Ma Rongomaiwahine
O Nukutaurua e.

He travels up the coast
to Mahia peninsula
and sees his desire.
Oh yes! Oh Rongomai!
Come young man, dive
for the paua belonging to Tangaroa
as a gift for Rongomaiwahine
of Nukutaurua.

Nāhau rā Kahungunu
Tangata whakanene
Na te pāua
I raru ana koe Rongomai e
Maranga mai e hine
Ka haere tāua e
Ki Maramatea
O Nukutaurua e.

Kahungunu has the gift,
of being a trickster.
It was the paua
that defeated you Rongomai.
Come young lady
Let us two travel
to Maramatea
of Nukutaurua.

I will have these printed and ready for next week. I will also talk with Mr B about me having Kapa Haka every morning tea, not just Tues, Thurs and Fri. So I will confirm on that.

Please be ready. Now that we have 25 mins for morning tea, lets have Karakia and eating happen in the first 5 mins then 20mins of solid practice. Thoughts? Comment below!

PS: Please give me some feedback on last nights DISCO in the comments. I will pass this on to the APT :D

Kia pai to ra!
